ENGLANDS WORLD CUP CAMPAIGN

Traditionally , The British Empire has not done well in South Africa , they lost the First Anglo-Boer War (1879–1881)-[also known as the "Transvaal War"] 1 nil to the Boers , but remember ..... that was only half-time ....... The Second War (1899-1902) was a much cagier affair , the British had a good squad this time ..... they had a new manager in Field Marshal Lord Roberts , and with the likes of Colonel Robert Baden-Powell and Major General John French , this was going to be their war .
The Battle of Elandslaagte was a clear-cut British tactical victory but unfortunately the 217-day Siege of Mafeking took its toll on the Brits ........ the 2nd half started well with the British relieving the town of Kimberly and it was all plain sailing from there ......... The Relief of Ladysmith went along way to deciding this tie , Lord Kitchener was brought on late and secured a draw in 1902 with a final score of 2-2 to The British .

Unfortunately the current squad didn't fare much better , an overall poor display meant that they went home early ............ but at least they didn't have any player lose a leg to a tiger , ..... A TIGER !!!!! ......... DID YOU SAY A TIGER ? ....... IN AFRICA !!!
