Here's what apparently happened ........... our Joe has been sitting on a bench with an injury for a year , picking up his cheque [as you do] week after week , month after month until finally he's fit enough to play .
He then wades in with 2 goals in 14 appearances and decides that he should be paid more ........ £20,000 a week more in fact .......... our Joe wants £100,000 pw .
Chelsea counter with an offer of £85,000 pw [an increase of £5k pw] ........ Joe decides that this isn't good enough, and puts himself on the open market where he thinks he will get his £100k pw.
Sadly this does not happen for Joe , his agent linked him to Manchester United , Inter Milan , Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs .......... no one was willing to pay his price ...... even though he was on a free .
Finally , today .... Liverpool FC have announced that they would pay him somewhere in the region of £90k pw and seeing as they're short of english players for when the new UEFA ruling comes in ........ thats another reason the deal was struck struck .
Cole - Benayoun, some interesting figures
Cole rumoiured to be on £95k over four years + £4.5 m signing on fee.
Total £24.26 mill
Benayoun said to be on £65k per week over four years + £3.5 m transfer fee.
Total £17 million
Shortly Joe will travel to Eastern Europe to play in the Europa league 1st round .
The way I see it .......... he will probably be paying an extra £10k on house insurance in Liverpool so he's moved for an extra £490k a year ......... and shant be playing in the Champions League ............. strange move .
Put this next to Oguchi Onyewu , a US player at AC Milan ..... he was out injured for a year and agreed to play for them for no pay this year to finish out his contract .
Michael Essien has just signed a new long term contract at no increase in salary because he feels thankful that Chelsea paid him while he has been out injured last season ......... now thats an honourable man.
