Oscar award winning actress Patricia Neal has died from lung cancer at the age of 84 Sunday. She passed away at her Martha's Vineyard home.
Neal won an Oscar for her performance opposite Paul Newman in 1963's 'Hud.' She fought back from three strokes brought on by burst cerebral aneurysms. She was in a coma for three weeks and was left her partially paralyzed soon after the Oscar win to star in ‘A Face in the Crowd,’ ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still,’ ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s,’ ‘The Fountain Head’ and 'The Subject Was Roses.' She was nominated for an Oscar for 'The Subject Was Roses.'
In 1949 Neal starred along with Gary Cooper in the movie 'The Fountainhead.' The two became involved. The affair ended three years later when Neal became pregnant and had an abortion after Cooper refused to leave his wife and daughter.
In 1953 Neal wed Roald Dahl. The couple were married for 30 years. Neal is survived by her and Dahl's four surviving children. Their daughter Olivia died at the age of seven from measles encephalitis in 1962.
