Happy Birthday, Doctor Who, 908 today

Fans of the BBC’s the long-running science-fiction drama are today celebrating the television character’s 908th birthday – although he doesn’t look a day over 47 . . . er, 28!

The very first episode of the iconic show was broadcast on Saturday, 23 November 1963 – the day that President John F Kennedy was assassinated.

Doctor Who, the show, is 47, although the Doctor, himself – a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey – is thought to be 908. That said, nobody is quite sure – not least, the Doctor himself.

David Tennant’s tenth Doctor is said to be “903 years of age” in Voyage of the Damned (2007), “900” in Last of the Time Lords and “906” by The End of Time (2009).

US science-fiction fans have descended on Utah's Monument Valley to catch sight of the stars of an iconic British science-fiction TV drama series.

The iconic series, Doctor Who, is filming in the US for the first time in its 47-year history, and American fans have been arriving in their droves to watch the action and collect autographs of the actors.

Doctor Who stars Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill. Smith is the eleventh actor to play the Doctor, and Gillan and Darvill play his current companions, Amy and Rory. The two-part adventure – which has been written by the show's head writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat – is set in 1960's America. The trio arrive in the desert after receiving a secret summons from the Oval Office.

The BBC have recently confirmed that returning to the series in these episodes will be the mysterious Professor River Song – played by the ER favourite, Alex Kingston. According to What's On TV, rumour has it that her character "may have somehow been involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, although Doctor Who's executive producer Steven Moffat has yet to confirm [this]".
