Linda Lovelace biopic drops Lindsay Lohan

The long awaited biopic of porn actor Linda Lovelace has ended its commitment with Lindsay Lohan in the wake of her recent problems with substance abuse, and recast the lead role.

Malin Akerman (Watchmen) is now confirmed to play the part of tortured porn queen Linda Lovelace in the Muse production of Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story.

The troubled biopic is based upon Ordeal: An Autobiography by Linda Lovelace and Mike McGrady and was written and will be directed by Matthew Wilder. The brilliant script has the notorious distinction of appearing on the 2008 Black list.

In a statement published on Eonline director Wilder commented on Lohan,

"We have stuck by Lindsay very patiently for a long time with a lot of love and support. Ultimately the possibility of insuring her ...and other issues... have made it impossible to go forward."

Many Hollywood insiders have openly speculated that the troubled starlet had requested that the project's producers tone down some of the more sexually provocative aspects of the script.

It has also been thought that during her rehabilitation it may not be suitable for her to play such an intense role where her character is exposed to substance abuse.
Akerman is currently on location filming Wanderlust with Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston.

Lohan is presently staying at the Betty Ford Center where she must remain in rehab until Jan 3, 2011.

Lovelace was famous for her performance in Deep Throat (1972), which was the taboo genre's first blockbuster hit and propelled pornography into the cultural mainstream.

In her book Lovelace maintained that she never made a penny from Deep Throat, and that she had been virtually forced into acting in that film and other sadistic acts by her husband/manager Chuck Traynor at gunpoint and by threat of death.

She spent the rest of her life as a tireless crusader against pornography.
