Google Rebranding News of the Day:
In the run-up to the public launch of Google+, Google has decided to rebrand a couple of its existing products: Blogger and Picasa will become Google Blogs and Google Photos.
Google made the move “as part of a larger effort to unify its brand for the public launch of Google+,” and speculates that the Big G might “completely integrate both services into Google+.”
The official rebranding is coming in the next six weeks.

UNUSUAL BEDFELLOWS
The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea
In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
"O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are, you are, you are,
What a beautiful Pussy you are."
Pussy said to the Owl "You elegant fowl,
How charmingly sweet you sing.
O let us be married, too long we have tarried;
But what shall we do for a ring?"
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the Bong-tree grows,
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose, his nose, his nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.
"Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling your ring?"
Said the Piggy, "I will"
So they took it away, and were married next day
By the Turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon.
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand.
They danced by the light of the moon, the moon, the moon,
They danced by the light of the moon. Edward Lear
FALLING SKIES : REVIEW
I'll keep this simple
Sorry, but I'd be very surprised if this nonsense got a 2nd season. It is childish in the extreme, the script is poor, it's more cliched than a Schwarzenegger soundboard and it is obviously trying to hang on to the coattails of the also apocalyptic ' The Walking Dead '.
This is 2011, we all have a pretty good idea of what war entails these days yet the writers of this mess continue with the age old TV reality of what they think war is. People either have minor injuries or they are dead, no middle ground here I'm afraid. Everyone talks in clipped phrases of no more than six words at a time and there's the usual cast of good looking thirtysomethings who are fit and healthy, and they all have the American gung ho attitude of " we shall never lay down " ......... do the writers of some American TV shows ever look out of their windows and see what the rest of the world sees when it looks at the average American walking down a street with nothing but fast food outlets and Drive Thru Banks ?
......... and what is it with these shows where a man loses his wife and up pops a beautiful replacement straight away [Oooooo, can you feel the sexual energy ?], no mourning period, no sense of loss ....... come on writers, try a little harder.

'Sexsomnia' sufferer in Pembroke Dock cleared of rape
A man accused of raping a teenage girl has been cleared after successfully arguing he suffers from a condition which means he has sex whilst asleep.
Stephen Lee Davies, 43, of Pembroke Dock, claimed he was innocent because he suffered from sexsomnia.
He was accused of raping a 16-year-old girl staying at his home.
His wife and a former partner gave evidence at Swansea Crown Court on how they became used to being "groped" in the night while sleeping with him.
The jury took just over an hour to find him not guilty.
A sleep consultant gave evidence at the trial confirming that what Mr Davies said was probably true.
His wife, and a former partner, also gave evidence on how they became used to being "groped" in the night.
They said he would have sex with them in his sleep and remember nothing in the morning.
The court had heard the girl had gone to sleep on Mr Davies' bed in the early hours of 7 September 2009, because his room was cooler.
'Instinctive behaviour'
Mr Davies was already asleep in the bed and told the court he had no idea she was there.
The teenager told the court she had woken in the middle of the night to find Mr Davies having sex with her.
After his arrest he was asked if anything had happened and he replied: "Not that I know of".
Prosecutor Jim Davies said that it was "significant" that Mr Davies had gone downstairs after the incident and put the kettle on.
Dr Chris Idzikowski, head of Edinburgh Sleep School, gave expert evidence at the trial.
He said that sexsomnia was a sleep disorder which fell into the category of sleep walking - something that affects one in 25 people.
"It is an instinctive behaviour, they are not conscious at the time," he added.

Joey Chestnut Wins With 62
It took 10 minutes and 62 hot dogs for Joey Chestnut to win his fifth consecutive Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island.
Retaining the Mustard Yellow Belt once again, Chestnut of San Jose, Calif., has dominated the competition. In 2009, he set the all-time record, downing 68 hot dogs and buns, the equivalent of 21,000 calories, in ten minutes.

The 96th annual hot dog eating contest brought out thousands to the corner of Stillwell and Surf Avenues in front of the original Nathan's Famous hot dog stand to witness a spectacle of spittle so gross one can't help but watch.
The scene was reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, there was a man in a Dr. Seuss hat on stilts, a dancing plush hot dog and two two guys in orange tank tops bouncing on a trampoline. Many spectators came in their July 4th finest, there were men wrapped in American flags chanting "USA, USA!" and women wearing red, white and blue bikinis.
For the first time this year, Nathan's sponsored separate competitions for men and women. 100-pound Sonya Thomas of Alexandria, Va., took the title in the first ever competition for women, eating 40 hot dogs and buns in ten minutes, one shy of her 2009 record. She never stopped moving during the contest, constantly bouncing and twisting her way to victory. She shoved hot dogs in her mouth with one hand, while cradling a cup of liquid to wash them down with the other.
Thomas also known as "The Black Widow," was the odds-on favorite going into the contest, in 2009 she set the women's record by eating 41 hot dogs and buns during the joint competition.
The contest requires eaters to consume the entire hot dog and bun and any "reversal of fortune," Major League Eating's term for vomiting, results in an automatic disqualification.

Snacking and super sizing are two of the dieter's worst enemies, research suggests.
The average daily calorie intake in the US has increased by almost a third in 30 years, reaching 2,374 kilocalories.
The influence of bigger portion sizes and excessive snacking outweighs the shift towards high-calorie foods, say experts.
You heard it here first !!
A team from the University of North Carolina analysed data from food surveys carried out in the seventies, eighties, nineties and the last decade. The surveys record all food and drink a person consumes over a 24-hour period. The average daily energy intake of a US citizen increased from 1,803 kcal in 1977-78 to 2,374 kcal in 2003-06. In the last decade of the study alone, the average daily calorie intake went up by 229 kcal.
This study also looked at portion size and studies have shown that having larger portions of food leads to an increased intake.

Mom gets 5 years probation for spanking her child, and loses custody
Corpus Christi, Texas - Rosalina Gonzales lost custody of her three children and has been put on probation for five years. Her crime was spanking her almost two-year-old with her hand on the child's bottom.
The child's grandmother noticed red marks on the child's buttocks and took her to a hospital to be checked. The hospital called the Department of Family and Protective Services even though the little girl was found to be healthy and did not have any lasting injuries.
The children were taken from their mother in December and placed in the grandmother's custody according to lifesitenews.com.
The Texas Attorney General's website states spanking is not illegal, "Texas law allows the use of force but not deadly force, against a child by the child's parent, guardian, or other person who is acting in loco parentis." A child can be spanked on the buttocks using an open hand, a brush or a belt if it doesn't leave a bruise, welt or swelling," it's likely OK states npr.org
In an agreement with prosecutors Gonzales plead guilty to the charges of Injury to a Child a felony. She will be on probation for five years, has to take parenting classes, follow Children's Protective Service's (CPS) guidelines and make a one time payment of $50 to the Children's Advocacy Center.
Attorney Kelly Shackelford of Liberty Institute said, "In this country, children are not children of the state. They're children of the parents and the parents do have a right to reasonable discipline including spanking. So this is a pretty clear abuse of authority and is something that people need to be aware of -- that government officials don't have the right to this kind of bullying of parents and families."
