Elvis Presley remixed in new album

An updated, contemporary version of Elvis Presley's "Suspicious Minds" was heard on radio stations in the US yesterday. This is the first single from the yet-to-be-released “Viva ELVIS-The Album."

A Cirque du Soleil show based on the music of Elvis Presley has inspired a new reworking of some of the King's biggest hits, including Suspicious Minds.

The restyling of Presley's music was done using thousands of samples of his music taken from recording studios, concerts, films and even personal tapes.

Presley's voice is mixed with new musical accompaniment, including new electric guitar backup, keyboards, scratch and a horn section. Producer Erich van Tourneau incorporated ragga, punk or hip-hop elements into classic recordings to "boost the emotional charge" of some of the songs, he said in a news release Monday.

The first remixed single,Suspicious Minds — the 1969 hit that was Presley's last No. 1, was released on yesterday.

A full album with "re-imagining" of songs such as "Blue Suede Shoes," "Bossa Nova Baby," "Suspicious Minds," "King Creole," "Burning Love," "It's Now or Never," "Heartbreak Hotel" and "That’s All Right."

Viva Elvis — The Album, made with the support of Elvis Presley Enterprises, "echoes Elvis' own versatility and ability to master all music genres," according to label Legacy Recordings.

Van Tourneau produced the music for Canadian circus troupe Cirque du Soleil's Viva Elvis show at the Aria Resort in Las Vegas. The tribute to the life and music of Elvis opened earlier this year.
