FAIL !

Goalkeeper celebrates too early, costs his team promotion

The footage you're about to witness comes from the lower leagues of Italian soccer, in an encounter between Termeno and Dro. The teams were level at the end of the match, thus concluding with a dreaded penalty shootout.

After several nail-biting penalties had already been taken, Michael Palma of Termero had the weight of the world on his shoulders. It was simple. Miss, stay in Promozione (7th level of Italian soccer). Score, remain in contention for promotion to Eccellenza (6th level of Italian soccer).

Palma's shot struck the crossbar and vanished into thin air, almost as if NASA had sent it on a space mission. Dro goalkeeper, Loris Angeli, began celebrating his team's "promotion" while Palma hung his head in shame. Little to the knowledge of either player, the ball returned and slowly bounced over the line. Teremeno were still in with a chance!

Ironically, Dro missed their next penalty and Teremeno gained promotion to Eccellenza.
