TV CANCELLATIONS 2012

ABC Cancels Pan Am, The River, GCB and Missing

Pan Am was one of the season's period pieces inspired by the Mad Men craze. It didn't do that well, but it didn't do that bad, either. ABC opted not to order the back nine episodes after the show's initial 13 aired, but held off on officially canceling the show. Fans stayed positive, but it was a longshot to come back.

As for The River, well, I think we can safely say that a found-footage horror television series just doesn't work. I'll miss monkeys wearing random doll faces in the jungle, though.

Not surprisingly, ABC also canceled GCB after a disappointing first season. The over-the-top soap about Texas women starred Kristin Chenoweth and Leslie Bibb, but never took off. It was the topic of many headlines when it was announced, as its original name was Good Christian Bitches. Shockingly, people had a problem with the name.

Network executives, let Missing be a lesson to you. America is not really interested in 40-year-old female action heroes who spend all their time running after planes and falling to their knees to cry. But don't miss the thrilling conclusion when the series finale airs next Thursday on ABC !

But it's not all bad news ........ Renewals went out to Grey's Anatomy, Castle, Scandal, Revenge, Once Upon a Time, The Middle, Suburgatory, and Modern Family.

CBS Cancels CSI:Miami, Unforgettable, A Gifted Man, Rob, NYC 22

The David Caruso-starring CSI spin-off will not live to see Season 11. Though Miami wasn't the lowest-rated series of the three in its franchise — that would be CSI:NY, but it was more expensive to produce than its fellow spin-off. (Original Recipe CSI was renewed in March), so money is likely what made the final call. [UPDATE: CSI:NY has now officially been renewed.]

CBS also canceled freshmen series Unforgettable, A Gifted Man, Rob, and NYC 22. None of the cancellations were particularly surprising—though not all of them were guaranteed, as Unforgettable and Rob were both decent performers in the ratings. That said, A Gifted Man was flop by CBS standards, with only a 1.4 rating the adult demographic, and it's hard to believe anyone even knew NYC 22 was on the air.

NBC Cancels Awake, Are You There, Chelsea ?, Best Friends Forever, and Bent.
