Villas-Boas Named New Tottenham Manager

Villas-Boas has been tasked with returning Spurs to the Champions League. They missed out last season despite finishing fourth because Chelsea won the competition.

The Portuguese had an unhappy spell at Chelsea. He was sacked after only eight months in charge, with the European Champions in sixth place in the Premier League. Villas-Boas will be eager to prove that he can be successful in England, after winning the league and the Europa League with Portuguese giants Porto.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will back his new man in the transfer market. Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is set to join, and Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen is also close to finalising a move.

"For me, this is one of the most exciting coaching positions in the Premier League," said Villas-Boas.

"This is a squad any coach would love to work with. Together I believe we can bring success in the seasons ahead."
