The Day Mister Rogers Saved PBS

Mister Rogers appeared before normally sarcastic, hardened, short tempered, and sometimes rude Senators in 1969. The Senators were holding hearing to decide if they should cut government funding in half ($20 million) for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Service as proposed by President Richard Nixon.

Mister Rogers calmly, and patiently, explained his position, and what impact his program had on children, and the mental health of our society as a whole. Mister Fred M. Rogers completed his presentation by speaking the words of a song he calls What Do You Do with the Mad You Feel?

If all teachers in our schools had the sincere dedication that Mr. Rogers had, our children could be very different people as adults.
